IPIA seminar targets print newcomers

The Independent Print Industries Association hopes to give newcomers to print an overview of the industry in its Print, Finishing and Paper seminar on 10 April.

The full-day annual training event, which will take place at the Ramada Encore Hotel in Derby, will give delegates an introduction to pre-press processes and equipment, litho and digital print, specialist print products such as labels and security print, print finishing and personalisation as well as substrates and environmental impact.

The seminar is aimed particularly at newcomers to the print industry, either running their own businesses or as part of a larger organisation, and from a broad range of roles such as print buying, marketing, production, account management and sales.

Training is given in the form of presentations, videos, material samples and hand outs.

IPIA chief executive Andrew Pearce said that the course was also beneficial to people that may have been involved in the industry for some time but had perhaps found themselves tied to one area.

"This programme really has something for everyone. For a new printer it gives a fantastic overview of all areas of the industry and an understanding of how they work while for those that have been in the industry for years but only in finishing or pre-press perhaps, this will give them the confidence to look into moving to other areas.

"Although we may not have the volume of people coming into the industry that we want unfortunately, there are still people that are hiring and they want their new staff to find out more," he added.
