However, according to Informa Exhibitions managing director Peter Hall, while Cross Media is unsustainable as a standalone annual show, it will instead be incorporated to its quadrennial Ipex event.
“Cross Media will be integrated into Ipex to recognise print's vital role within multi-channel marketing, but unfortunately there has been insufficient exhibitor demand from the supplier community to be able to continue running it as a standalone event,” said Hall.
The event was launched in October 2012, attracting 2,500 visitors and ran again in October 2013, attracting 2,750 visitors. Informa also ran an spin-off at Ipex last month, Cross Media Production.
This October’s event was also due to host the PODi European AppForum. However, Tony Hodgson, director of PODi Europe, said the AppForum would still go ahead.
“I had a sense that there were some issues with the Cross Media show, so its cancellation didn’t come as a massive surprise,” he said.
“We’re still going ahead and autumn is a good time, so the timing will be similar. We’re currently looking at potential venues, but it will certainly be in London.”
The cancellation of Cross Media 2014 follows yesterday’s confirmation that a number of staff from Ipex’s sales and marketing teams were facing potential redundancy and the departure of Ipex event director Trevor Crawford.
