Global Business - winner: Fix-a-Form International

This award recognises UK-based companies that have registered significant successes in the global marketplace. Judges looked for export sales, overseas operations, franchise deals and the development of commercial relationships with overseas operators

Winner of the 2008 Global Business award, Fix-a-Form International has shown that it is not prepared to rest on its laurels and continued to innovate to keep on top of its game (and this category). The judges praised the firm's "forward-thinking global franchise strategy" and in particular its willingness to leverage technology to reduce its operating costs. Examples include the use of Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) technology Skype and webcams to reduce the need to travel, lowering operating costs and its environmental footprint. "Online services have been a critical element in profits growth," said one judge who praised the Suffolk-based firm's cost-saving initiatives. The firm's use of online technology also stretched to the support of the unique machines that it supplies to its global partners, which use remote diagnostics to speed up service times and reduce the need to travel.

The firm is truly global with 94% of its revenues derived from outside the UK via a network of customers in 26 countries covering all continents bar Antarctica.
