Linda Arkley, mayor of North Tyneside, unveiled the firm's £500,000 investment when she visited the 100-year-old business as part of a tour of companies in the area last month.
According to Kevin Rogers, director of Elanders, the digital press investment would enable the group to grow its UK presence and develop its web-to-print offering.
He said: "While the new press will undoubtedly help us consolidate and expand our position in the market place it also represents a significant investment in the region.
"It is one of the first steps in our push for growth which will mean more employment for the area."
Rogers added the HP Indigo spend forms part of a broader expansion programme at Elanders that will include investment into its offset and finishing departments.
Commenting on her visit, Mayor Arkley said: "The company has clearly demonstrated its commitment to growth and expansion, hopefully bringing with it new jobs, which is excellent news for the borough.
"North Tyneside Council will continue to do all it can to support Elanders’ ongoing success and growth."
