Duplo International
Hall 13, Stand B53
One of the highlights of Duplo’s booth will undoubtedly be the Digital System 5000 Pro. The device is the highest performer in Duplo’s range of digital bookletmakers. It includes the 400spm Document Sheet Feeder 5000. Using collated sets in one half of the feeder and pre-printed covers in the other, it can, according to the manufacturer, produce booklets at very high speeds. HP Indigo users will be glad to know it is compatible with the digital presses for pallet loading.

Ferag
Hall 15, Stand D25
At Drupa 2012, Ferag will introduce TapeFix, a system to secure insert collections. TapeFix takes the place of a wrapper to ensure that collections stay together. TapeFix is also, according to the company, an inexpensive alternative for inserting supplements as part of the newspaper production process. Also new is MiniSert, a low-cost means to move up from manual inserting to an automated system. The modular inserting line can raise inserting production to a higher level at lower cost than previously.

Horizon International
Hall 13, Stand D36
New on stand will be two all-in-one bookletmakers: the offline SF-100 and the CW-8000NL, which is a near-line machine that combines bleed-trimming, creasing, stitching, folding, face-trimming and stacking. This digital finishing solution produces high-quality booklets with edge to edge printing. The SF-100 is equipped with a mark reader and is capable of producing booklets with varying page counts. Horizon has also teamed up with Océ and Hunkeler for its Roll to Booklet Solution. This line will be shown producing personalised booklets with variable sheet counts. Rolls will be printed with an Océ ColorStream 3500 and then unwound and cut with Hunkeler’s UW-6 and CS-6 machines before being saddle-stitched by a Horizon StitchLiner 6000 Digital.

KAS Paper Systems
Hall 13, Stand A73

Blumer is also very well known for its punching lines, and will feature new developments in this arena.

Bobst
Hall 10, Stand A4
Several developments for the ExpertCut 106 die-cutter will be on show, including the new Smart Feeder II, as well as advances that reduce waste and shorten recovery time following a machine stop, thereby improving net output. These improvements also reduce the number of over-runs required from print, increasing customer profit margins, says the company. To ensure die-cutting quality throughout the run, the equipment on display will also feature new systems which increase the operational life of tooling.

Bograma/Sigma Engineering
Hall 6, Stand A24
On this joint booth Bograma and Sigma Engineering will be displaying the BS Multi flatbed punching machine with cutting equipment, alongside the BSR 550 Servo Rotary die-cutter. The plan is to show the production of boxes, folders and giftcard holders, plus micro perforation, kiss-cutting of stamps and punching of a folding product.

Designed following a programme of customer engagement, this new system will reduce waste and improve the quality of the final product. Enhanced quality control systems will further reduce waste, constantly monitoring the output of both the folder-gluer line and upstream processes, ensuring that customers can achieve a successful move towards ‘zero-fault’ packaging. For food packaging, advances in folding and gluing technology will also be demonstrated to help customers improve the on-machine performance of complex cartons such as crash-locks and four- and six-corner boxes. These developments will deliver shorter set-up times, higher run speeds and reduced waste, says the company, improving the profitability of existing contracts and enabling users to expand into new markets. For pharmaceutical packaging markets, new developments will be shown that extend the capabilities of in-line Braille, while reducing set-up times, helping users comply with the legal and contractual requirements of this market.

The second, an envelope delivery system for personalised products, is, claims the manufacturer, a world first. Every 1.8 seconds it can dispense a cross-strapped bundle that has been divided according to postal or other criteria specific to the customer, and automatically labels them. Envelope formats can range from C5 to B4, and different bundle heights can be detected automatically and cross-strapped.

MUST-SEES

Autobond 52 SUV-SDF
After the success of the company’s original spot UV lamination machine, the Mini 36 TPM SUV, which is being demonstrated at a European exhibition for the first time at Drupa 2012, Autobond will launch the 52 SUV-SDF, a B2 portrait inkjet spot UV machine with Heidelberg-Stahl suction drum-feeder, at the show. According to Autobond managing director John Gilmore, demand for larger versions of the machine has been high, hence the new launch. "Almost as soon as we had announced the launch of the 36 SUV, I started receiving phone calls asking when we’d be developing a larger B2 landscape version of the machine," he explains. "The demand has been staggering." The 52 SUV-SDF has been developed to meet the short run demand for an entry-level inkjet spot UV machine. This offline machine has a maximum sheet size of 520x740mm and features automatic, continuous-run, top-load feeding.

Esko Kongsberg XN finishing table

This new machine can be used for cutting plates as part of the Esko Digital Flexo Suite and can handle the heavy materials used for protective packaging. Newly developed tools include a solid board V-notching insert, a corrugated paper-core board V-notching insert and a
Braille tool insert. It has a modular table-top design and is available in different sizes; from the Kongsberg XN20 (1,680x1,270mm) up to the Kongsberg XN48 (2,210x6,550mm).

Horizon HOF 400 Feeder
Capable of feeding A4 sheets short-edge first for landscape A4 booklet production, this machine features a feeding performance and a modular concept design that enables flexible booklet production for digital printed output. Horizon says the uniquely designed feeding system runs at up to 45,000sph and its highly automated set-up is via touchscreen controls. Main feeder, cover feeder, accumulator, CCD camera device, and barcode reading device can be arranged in various configurations, while the Horizon pXnet bindery control system can plan jobs, collect production data and interface with existing workflow for automated JDF set up. As well as the SPF-200A and StitchLiner5500 systems, it can be configured with the Drupa-launched SPF-200AL bookletmaking system for landscape-stitched booklets.

"A4 landscape books is an interesting niche market and Horizon has recognised that with this machine for short-run digital work," comments IFS joint managing director Tony Hards.
