CPI broadens European reach with Spanish mono acquisition

Book printing group CPI has strengthened its European foothold after acquiring the mono operation of Spanish printer Litografia Ross.

Although technical details were not disclosed, the deal, which concluded last week, strengthens the group's short-run, digitally-printed book offering.

Francois Golicheff, chief executive of CPI Group said that while the deal was not likely to directly impact the UK market, the acquisition would strengthen its pan-European offering of "one to million" books.

"This deal complements our business and is key in terms of improved supply and quality for our customers," he said.

According to CPI Group, the latest acquisition was at the top of its list when the decision came to expand its market coverage that also spans Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic and the Netherlands.

The new business will be rebranded as CPI Iberica and 100 employees join CPI Group from the Litografia Rosés business.

Former Litografia Rosés chief financial officer Xavier Valls has been appointed to the role of chief executive of the new business and will report to Pierre-François Catté, chairman of the executive board

Golicheff added that the group's UK operation, which has six sites including Antony Rowe, Cox & Wyman and Mackays, had experienced "strong growth" in both short- and long-run printing this year.
