Colorific UV Light enables users to convert any Roland wide format printer that uses Epson Piezo DX4 and DX5 printheads for use with Colorific's new hybrid UV inks.
The hybrid ink combine an eco-solvent ink with inbuilt UV initiators and inhibitors and a 1,626mm (64") light bar, which cures the ink.
Business manager Shaun Holdom said the process eliminated the need for the lengthy drying and gassing processes that were necessary when UV printing with traditional eco-, mild-solvent and full-solvent systems.
Holdom said the system had a lower carbon footprint than standard UV printers. "The lamp is low intensity and the curing process doesn’t produce VOCs, so it is less harmful to the environment," he added.
The list price for the Lightbar System is £2,550 and the UV Light ink will cost £99 per 440 ml cartridge.
Holdom said that, although this was the price of a standard OEM cartridge, it is more cost effective because there is up to 50% less ink evaporation with the UV Light process.
"We’ve had nine orders from our reseller partners. It will be available to end-users in January," Holdom said.
The ink is currently compatible with Epson's DX4 and DX5 printheads and the UV Lightbar System is compatible with Roland’s RS, RE, RA and VP four-colour units.
Holdom said: "We are modifying it for Roland’s Pro II and Pro III machines and that will be ready early in the new year. As we get more demand we’ll role it out onto other printers that use the Roland print head technology."
Colorifc will host a series of briefings about its UV Light ink technology for distributors and end-users at its offices in Maidenhead on 11, 12 and 13 December. Details of further dates will be announced in the New Year.
