'Tragically, a Limited Edition' is a series of 880 two-colour linocut prints produced on Conqueror Bamboo paper supplied by Antalis.
David Borrington of Baldock, Hertfordshire-based Dekkle Printmaking Studio produced the edition on the firm's hand-operated 1878 Albion press.
“In an age dominated by social and digital media, it’s a joy to work with like-minded people on tactile projects that have longevity, such as this one,” said Project Hangup founder and concept designer Jacinta Sullivan. “Conqueror Bamboo, with its environmental credentials and its luxurious feel was the perfect paper.”
The print run of 880 represents the number of mountain gorillas left in the wild.
While the majority of the run was produced in black and silver, 220 prints were produced in black and gold. This was done to highlight the additional pressure faced by one quarter of the gorilla population – those that live in the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo due to proposals to prospect for oil in the area.
Conqueror Bamboo is made from a mixture of FSC-certified wood fibres and bamboo fibre, the Tragically, a Limited Edition prints were produced on the natural white 350gsm version.
An exhibition of Tragically, a Limited Edition, will be on show from 12-15 June 2014 at the offices of Major Players, 73-75 Endell Street, London, WC2H 9AJ.
