The 40m long label was printed on a Xeikon 3300 using the Code 128 linear barcode system to say "Happy 60th Birthday Barcode!", in machine readable format.
"It took seven of us – one to take the photo and six to stop the 40m-long barcode from flapping in the wind, said Jason Woodhouse, business development manager.
AC Labels made the world record attempt in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the patenting of the barcode.
Woodhouse said AC Labels had submitted its attempt to the Guinness Book of Records and was waiting to hear whether it would be included.
"We’re confident we’ll get it," said Woodhouse. "I don’t think anyone out there would have a need for anything bigger.
"We’re on the flight path for East Midlands airport so we’d like to do another 2D barcode for the roof saying ‘Welcome back to Blighty’, but unfortunately we don’t have a building big enough," he added.
