In 2006, 3M filed a law suit in the Delhi High Court against two wholesellers Standard Xerox & Stationers and Sundaram Marketing, located at Mumbai who were suspected of indulging in marketing and selling counterfeit Post-it and 3M products.
The Delhi High Court appointed independent court commissioners to carry out civil raids on these suspects. In January 2009, the Delhi High Court passed a Judgment in favour of 3M, injuncting the whole seller stationery shops from directly or indirectly infringing these goods.
The Delhi High Court also awarded 3M for punitive damages of Rs two lakh against each of the defendants.
When the defendants failed to pay the amount, 3M contested the matter before the Mumbai High Court, which executed the order against the defendants and seized all the stationery products from both the defendant's premises.
