WHAT? A 3,500sqm alpine scene that forms the backdrop to Europe’s largest real snow indoor ski slope – the centrepiece of the £31m, 23,225m² venue.
WHO? Manchester-based large-format printer The Image Group produced the job for Chill Factore.
WHERE? After a 12-week installation project, the job is now on show at Chill Factore in the Trafford Centre, Manchester. Chill Factore takes prides in providing a realistic ski experience, complete with an Alpine Village.
HOW? The graphic sections were printed on Mactac JT5929 gloss white vinyl and LF3998 clear matt laminate using a Vutek PressVu super-wide printer. But the installation was the real challenge due to the size of each vinyl print; 1.3m wide and up to a 20m drop length. The Image Group needed to line up the images perfectly on the overlap.
WOW! The Chill Factore job was the largest vinyl print installation in The Image Group’s history. The company couldn’t drill into the walls because the finished environment needed to be temperature controlled, and scaffolding couldn’t be used due to weight, cost and time restraints, so six abseilers and two cherry pickers were drafted in. But once a tin floor was laid, containing glycol pipes to create the alpine temperatures, the cherry pickers were too heavy to use.
If you think you’re producing a killer app and think it’s worthy of being featured on this page, send details of the job to: printingworld.editorial@haymarket.com
