It must be summer because pretty much everyone I want to speak to at the moment seems to be on holiday.
The papers have dusted off their summer reading specials, too, which is another sure sign of the season. In the absence of any concrete holiday plans perhaps one thing I can make some progress on is a reading list for the eventual getaway. Suggestions, please?
I have a couple to share, can highly recommend B*ll*cks to Alton Towers as a hugely-entertaining exploration of some of the more colourful and quirky options for Great British days out.
Other items on the reading pile include 1421 The Year China Discovered the World, and The Kinky Friedman Crime Club. I've also recently become acquainted with the joys of PG Wodehouse's Psmith series. And while Twilight's teenage vampire craze has rather passed me by, I have been saving up Let the Right One In to see if it's even better on the page than the excellent film adaptation.
You will detect a lack of self-improvement in my current selection and I suppose I really should add some sort of Stephen Covey tome, or maybe a Malcolm Gladwell. Ooh, and I mustn't forget to include former Times editor Harold Evans' memoir about his incredible career in journalism, which sounds great.
In a bid for further inspiration please share your own picks for super summer reads - it could result in the ultimate eclectic mix list.
