Print pub pursuit

A little bit of fanciful frippery, as it's Friday.

The other day, somebody sent me a picture of a rather quaint looking little pub, the "Printers Devil" (side note to Lynne Truss, should she be watching: I see no evidence of an apostrophe on the sign). What's not to like? I hear you cry. Unfortunately like hundreds of pubs up and down the country it has been closed down.

Naturally my thoughts immediately turned to a possible PrintWeek brand extension. We already have our own very popular virtual watering hole, Rick's Bar, so why not a real-life one? We could fill it with bits of old printing paraphernalia, and books chosen because they're nice books and not just in order to match the brewery's colour scheme. Other requirements would be one of those fantastic old skittle alleys, perhaps bar billiards too, and naturally this pub would serve a fine array of foaming real ale* and homemade pickled eggs. Surely appreciative printy punters would be queuing out of the door?

Meanwhile, back in the real world, and barring a big Euromillions win this evening, it is perhaps more realistic that I compile a list of print-related pubs instead. Fleet Street and its environs is easy enough, but what about further afield? Is there a pub with a print connection near you?

* Suggested cask list: Fuller's London Pride, Bath Ales Gem, Greene King Abbot Ale and Old Speckled Hen, Timothy Taylor's Landlord. Oh, and some draught cider because it comes from a press... (sorry, couldn't resist).
