While researching this story about the latest hi-tech investment at Bell & Bain, I found myself watching this YouTube video about the firm’s Alegro perfect binder, which explains how the binding line’s servo-based Motion Control Technology works.
Not for the first time I was struck by the incredible standard of the technology and engineering know-how deployed in the modern printing factory.
I get the same feeling when standing next to a great big litho press running at 18,000 or 20,000sph. And indeed when I think about the inner workings of high-end inkjet. This stuff is absolutely AWESOME.
While I fully appreciate that nowadays it is often software that makes the difference, at the end of the day printed goods have to be made, and made accurately and efficiently. So I just wanted to give an appreciative shout-out to all those engineers in our industry manufacturers’ R&D departments for their expertise.
The modern, 21st century printing factory truly is a wondrous place.
