Walstead’s recently appointed CEO for its EU operations has decided to leave the business, in a surprise move that comes just two months after he took up the new role.

José Maria Camacho stepped up to become CEO for Walstead European Union on 1 June, after the group consolidated its senior leadership team on the continent.

He has worked at the group for nearly eight years, and previously ran its Spanish operations.

Prior to joining Walstead he was CEO at continental web and gravure printer CirclePrinters, leaving in the summer of 2016 after the business was sold.

Camacho told Printweek: “My personal circumstances changed shortly after I started the new role and I have decided not to continue with Walstead.

“I am working on a handover of the Spanish businesses and will be leaving in the next few months.”

At the time of writing it was not clear whether Walstead would directly replace Camacho with a new EU-wide CEO.

Separately, Ian Southerland has joined Walstead as group finance director. He will replace incumbent Mike Common who will leave the business later this year.

Southerland brings a wide variety of international finance expertise to his new position, with previous roles at Dell, GE, EasyJet and Gilbarco Veeder-Root.

Neil Johnson’s role as the overall Walstead Group CFO is unchanged.

In its most recent accounts, for calendar year 2022, Walstead Group had sales of just under €648.9m (£557m), and lays claim to being the biggest independent commercial web printer in Europe.
