Images of the people involved in this week’s mayhem – many of whom were not wearing masks – have been circulating on social media as part of attempts to identify those involved.

Among those pictured was a bearded man wearing a Trump baseball cap whose company lanyard and work ID was clearly visible, identifying him as being connected to Navistar Direct Marketing, based in Maryland.

The firm is part of the Moore DM group of companies. Navistar Direct Marketing is a “digital and conventional printing company with full-service direct mail production servicing non-profit, commercial and political clients”.

The firm responded quickly after being alerted to the image.

In a statement, it said: "Navistar Direct Marketing was made aware that a man wearing a Navistar company badge was seen inside the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 during the security breach. After review of the photographic evidence the employee in question has been terminated for cause.

"While we support all employee’s right to peaceful, lawful exercise of free speech, any employee demonstrating dangerous conduct that endangers the health and safety of others will no longer have an employment opportunity with Navistar Direct Marketing.”

Nick Ellinger, chief brand officer for Moore DM Group, has been fielding hundreds of messages on Twitter about the incident.

Another US company, truck and bus maker Navistar, was forced to issue a statement saying that it had no connection with Navistar DM after its Twitter handle was mistakenly included in many of the tweets about the picture.

Five people died in Wednesday’s riot in Washington, including a US Capitol police officer who was among those attempting to defend the building.
