The AFV-566FKT, which is commercially available immediately in the UK from supplier Intelligent Finishing Systems (IFS), builds on Horizon’s AFC-566FKT automated cross-folder.
With the ability to handle variable production, the new machine is said to deliver enhanced functionality to tackle a broader range of fast turnaround run lengths quickly and efficiently.
Key features include up to 20% faster changeover, thanks to a library of stored folds readily accessible on a 12.1-inch colour touch screen, and the Auto Interval Function, which adjusts to the optimum production speed automatically for higher productivity.
Horizon said the device also features easy recovery at knife fold section to reduce downtime, retainable knife fold stoppers to minimise stoppages, and automated adjustment of the hold-down roller on the knife fold section to find the best position for smoother operation.
The machine also includes Horizon’s cloud-based iCE LiNK IoT automation, which provides access to a dashboard that reports real-time production analysis for improved efficiency and profitability, remote update capabilities, and scheduled maintenance, resulting in less downtime.
IFS managing director Eric Keane said: “Operations are under increasing pressure to minimise production costs effectively while managing an increasingly broad range of products and run lengths.
“To do that effectively requires fully automated, easy to set up, simple to operate systems that deliver high quality results – fast.
“With the new Horizon AFV-566FKT, Horizon has retained the core capabilities of the robustly engineered folder series. Following an end-to-end review, it has made enhancements throughout, and together they create a powerfully responsive solution.”
IFS told Printweek the new kit is highly customisable with different options, and pricing will depend on the configuration and options selected.
The existing AFC-566FKT and AFC-566F models will still be available until the end of this year, at which point they will be discontinued. IFS and Horizon will continue to supply all customers of these machines with service maintenance and spare parts for 10 years from the end of this year.
The existing semi-automatic AFC-564A and AFC-566A models will remain on the market.
