Launched on Friday (18 January), units will begin shipping in March. Targeting the mid-market of small and medium converters, it is priced upwards from €350,000 (£309,000) depending on configuration and can later be field upgraded to the full Tau RSC model.

It is available in both 244mm and 330mm widths, with colour configurations from standard CMYK up to eight-colour (CMYK, OVG and white). A chill roller can also be added.

Durst label and packaging printing segment manager Helmuth Munter said: “The Tau 330 RSC E implements the latest state-of-the-art RSC print technology, which was successfully launched with Durst’s flagship Tau 330 RSC at Labelexpo 2017.

“RSC technology combines cutting-edge print quality with the highest printing speeds, a game-changer now also available for the mid-tier label converter market. The new press has been very well received by the market, as its leading edge RSC technology is now available at a more economic cost, making it affordable for a much broader range of label converters.

“We are proud to be able to offer the RSC technology to an even broader range of clients and we expect a good sales result over the coming two or three years. We will continue driving innovation to keep our leading market position in UV inkjet label printing.”

Production capacity on the Durst Tau 330 RSC E is designed for a 1,020sqm/hr output, running at top speeds of 52m/min at full colour, including white. An upgrade to the full Tau RSC technology would increase its speed to 78m/min (linear).

The machine can print onto a range of substrates including self-adhesive labels, folding carton, film and foil at resolutions up to 1,200dpi. It can run using Durst’s prepress Workflow Label software.

It replaces the Durst Tau 330 E, which has been sold for the past three years.
