Supplied by Perfect Bindery Solutions, the machine features a unique inline end-papering facility as well as the ability to apply backlining material to hard covers.
Three gluing options are available: PUR, hotmelt and cold glue. Users can select the appropriate type without making any setup changes as the binder features two permanent glue tanks.
The KM40 uses a rail system to score covers rather than rotary scoring wheels. A straight blade is pressed into the book in one pass to provide a sharp and crack-free creasing method.
Manual and barcode setups are both offered. The machine can upload information from another source and be automatically configured in less than two minutes. The binder’s built-in measuring system ensures setup is accurate. Using this system, up to 600 individually designed books can be produced per hour.
The machine’s standard speed is 2,400 books per hour handling sizes between 120x100mm and 420x300mm.
The machine can be linked directly to most upstream gathering systems and downstream three-knife trimmers.
Delivery of books is handled carefully. As books arrive on the rack over delivery, a plate is used to lower them gently and books are delivered lying down. A cross stacker option is also available.
A jogging station, milling cutter, hotmelt glue tank and cover feed all come as standard. The PUR system, end-papering, cross stacker, interface-to-gathering system, cold glue and backlining are optional.
Prices start at around £140,000, rising to £218,000 for a fully specified model.
