Describe your business
We are a print finishing and bookbinding company.
What does the machine do?
It is a perfect binder with PUR.
Why did you choose this particular machine?
We believe this binder offers more versatility than any of the others available and the PUR system is above and beyond that of any of Muller Martini's competitors.
Did you look at any other similar machines?
We looked at alternatives, but settled on the Acoro.
Why did you make the purchase?
Our old binder was 12 years old, so we were looking to upgrade. The new binders are more automated than the old models and the trade demands we work quicker, so having easier makereadies is of vital importance.
What features do you particularly like?
The bookblock measuring device and the automated makereadies.
Is there anything that you dislike?
No. So far, things have been absolutely fantastic.
Is there anything that you wish it had that it doesn't?
No. We made sure it had everything we needed.
How fast is it?
It operates at 5,000 cycles per hour.
Is it reliable?
Yes.
What's the quality like?
It has brilliant quality.
How easy is it to use?
My staff have found it fairly straightforward.
How much time has it saved?
We used to be able to produce two jobs a day and now we are producing up to four or five jobs a day. And we are saving about half an hour on every makeready.
Has it won you any new work?
Yes. We weren't PUR capable before and now the PUR system has bought in a lot more work.
Would you say it offers value for money?
Yes.
Were there any difficulties experienced during the installation or after?
Obviously, you get a few teething problems when you install a machine, but, touch wood, it's been fine.
What about the pre- and after-sale service?
Pre-service was fine and any problems after sale were jumped on by Muller Martini straight away and sorted out.
Who do you think the machine is right for?
It is perfect for the sort of work we do. It is not ideal for massive runs, but for middle-of-the-road quantities it is perfect.
Under what circumstances would you buy another one?
It all depends on demand - we've always only ever had one binder.

Suppliers response
Muller Martini managing director Andreas Schillinger says: "The Acoro A5 is an interesting proposition for medium-sized companies. It combines the features of the bigger binding machines with those of the smaller ones. The automation feature allows you to preset everything, and the line resets itself, taking away a lot of the manual settings. It is an affordable machine, costing in the region of £800,000 with all it's features, such as PUR, in place."
