Based on the Kodak eight-page thermal CTP, the Magnus 800 delivers end-to-end automation. It comes with either a single-cassette or multi-cassette unit that holds up to 100 or 500 plates, respectively. Each tray can also hold different-sized plates. The machine handles plates up to 950x1162mm and thicknesses of 0.15-0.4mm. The high-end Quantum version uses Kodak’s Square spot technology to provide a 2,540dpi resolution.
It has a fixed clamp at the front of the machine and an automated picker, ensuring no paper is taken through the cycle. Censors measure the width of the plate and the system has a three-point registration
to make sure that plates are positioned correctly.
The plates pass through the six-stage loading system in parallel, so while one plate is being imaged, the second is already being loaded and waiting. A “quick plate remake” option is also available, allowing users to skip the autoloader and place plates directly into the machine.
A range of versions producing 15, 22, 30 and 40 plates per hour are available. Extra cassette units can be added if users want to upgrade machines.
The Magnus has inline registration, punching and automated sheet removal. It uses electric punching to ensure that no damage is caused to the plate.
Loading trays can be installed on either side of the autoloader and are positioned at waist height for easy loading.
The platesetter supports Kodak thermal plates, including Thermal Gold, Sword Excel and Electra Direct as well as Thermal Direct Non Process Plates. Workflows available include the Prinergy suite of products.
