Roland DG acquired a controlling stake in the Lithuanian firm over the summer.
At last week’s Printing United Expo show DG Dimense showed its new Dimensor SG for the first time in public.
The reel-fed 1.6m-wide device inkjets a water-based glue in the required decorative pattern. Then, the ‘glittering head’ passes over the media, dispersing glitter.
Excess glitter is removed by a vacuum cleaning head, with the surplus returned to the glittering tank.
The output is dried as it passes over a heated table, which is heated to 90 degrees.
DG Dimense CEO Dr Aleksey Etin said that the device was currently using standard glitter, but biodegradable eco glitter could also be used.
“We intend to disperse a variety of decorative particles, such as glass and plastic – any particles that you can’t print,” he explained.
Applications include decorative banners, marketing materials, and fine art.
The Dimensor SG runs at 16sqm/hr and the price is around $100,000 (£82,600).
Etin said the device on display – the firm’s first production machine – was being shipped to a US customer after the show for the first installation worldwide.
“We are transferring processes from the classic wallcovering industry to digital,” he added.
