The X-Coater will enable digital printers to run the Leeds-based firm's Eco-seal aqueous pressure-seal coating for the first time.
Eco-seal, which has previously been applied inline by offset printers, cannot be peeled once re-sealed, making it tamper evident and removing the need for mailing with envelopes.
“The X-Coater is a breakthrough that opens a huge new market for CyanX. Now we have a machine which will apply Eco-seal irrespective of production method,” said CyanX managing director Richard Mawson.
The X-Coater will be commercially available throughout Europe from June in 25in (635mm), 30in (762mm) and 36in (914mm) formats, either with a feeder or as a hand-fed machine. It has a maximum throughput of 4,500sph (25in model) or 4,000sph (30in and 36in models).
CyanX will also show its X-Presser pressing station for the first time at any major show at Drupa.
The X-Presser, which is already available, is a compact device designed for smaller print companies to work inline with existing finishing equipment, applying the final pressing and sealing stage to the Eco-seal process after folding.
The unit's hardened steel rollers crush the mailer as it exits the folder, causing the molecules of the Eco-seal to bond together, a process that CyanX said standard folding machines without a presser/stacker attachment cannot handle.
“The hardened steel rollers on this standalone pressing unit have pressure of about a tonne. Certain presser/stackers will do the job too but we don't get results on some others,” said Mawson.
