Chapelton to distribute biodegradable Plastiroll product

Paper and cartonboard supplier Chapelton has become an official distributor for Finland-based manufacturer Plastiroll’s Jazz@heat product for food packaging.

It has been distributing the product for around a month.

Jazz@heat is a dispersion-coated SBS board, approved and certified for food contact applications, which can be used for a wide range of direct food packaging, including dual ovenable trays and bakery products.

According to Plastiroll, it is biodegradable, recyclable and is also grease and moisture resistant. It is available in weights ranging between 200 and 400gsm.

Chapelton managing director Neil Skelton said: “Chapelton is well known for its environmental stance and the materials that we sell to promote that stance. Plastiroll was therefore a great fit for us and we have worked with them for a number of years.

“I like the environmental benefits and the fact that it is biodegradable, compostable and recyclable. It is also reliable and of a high quality.

“It is already selling well but we have high hopes of increasing sales.”

Skelton emphasised that Plastiroll offers flexibility “not offered by other suppliers”, in terms of smaller lots, quicker deliveries and the reel stock available for coating.

Chapelton has already taken on a number of new products this year for distribution in the UK.

In July, it became a distributor for Smurfit Kappa’s graphic board range of products, produced at its Wrexen Mill, Germany, and last May it started stocking International Paper’s Speed-E offset range.

“We had a very good summer trading period. We put a lot of effort into organically growing the company and exploring new supply and customer areas,” added Skelton.

He did, however, say that the exchange rate since the Brexit vote was “proving to be very challenging” and that Chapelton “had had to insist on price increases”.

The 10-staff outfit operates from a facility in Aylesford, Kent. Founded in 1984, it rebranded in 2015 and changed its name from Chapelton Board Sales.

Plastiroll develops and manufactures biodegradable, compostable materials for the packaging sector. Last year it turned over £29m.
