The US-headquartered manufacturer said the machine is designed to give digital and commercial printers fast, flexible performance for complex packaging products, including cartons, room key sleeves and presentation folders.

The digi-mollPak incorporates many proven folding and feeding mechanisms, according to B&R Moll, including an open-format system that facilitates quick changeovers between jobs and a dual-stream capacity to enable multiple feeds.

Positive feed control is provided by a bottom friction feeder that offers both continuous feed for regular stock as well as irregularly-shaped materials. A tipper plate with an air blast attachment, movable belts and pans, as well as anti-marking formers, maintain the system’s workflow and the system’s liftgate can be adjusted to allow for a quick job setup.

The device has a linear footprint of less than 5m and handles material ranging from 140-500gsm stocks in sizes ranging from 50x102mm up to 914x508mm. The maximum linear speed is 130m/min.

The company would not reveal pricing but said the machine, which will be commercially available from Drupa, offers many of the same features found in the firm's full-size Vantage folder-gluers, but for around 25% cheaper.

B&R Moll vice-president of sales Kevin Moll said: “The digi-mollPak is a smaller-format system that offers a quicker changeover versus customers going out and buying a machine for triple the price and triple the real estate. Ours does everything in a smaller, compact area, quicker and more affordably.”
