Can anyone help with a QuarkXPress 8 and PosterJet 8 software problem I have? We’ve used the PosterJet RIP for a couple of years without any problems, but when I upgraded to QuarkXPress 8 there seems to be a conflict between the two software packages. When they are both installed Quark 8 will not launch – it just says ‘a colour manager error is reported’. However, as soon as PosterJet is uninstalled QuarkXPress 8 appears to work fine. I am trying lots of suggestions from the Quark technical team and also waiting for PosterJet to get back to me, but wondered if anyone else had encountered the same problem and had the problem resolved – any help to get a speedy solution would be greatly received.

It sounds like you’ve got your bases covered with possible QuarkXPress conflicts, so I’ve spoken to the very helpful Matt Kavanagh at PosterJet’s UK distributor Perfect Colours. As far as he’s aware this isn’t a problem they’ve come across before, but by his own admission he’s not the company’s PosterJet expert. He suggests you contact him (0870 300 3600 mkavanagh@perfectcolours.com) and he’ll put you in touch with one of their engineers who specialises in supporting PosterJet installations and if they can’t help he can get someone at PosterJet in Germany to offer their assistance. Of course, if anyone else has come across a similar problem please get in touch or post your sage-like advice on http://community.printweek.com/forums/.
I’m trying to source some suppliers of brochures and flyers in Dubai, do you have any suggestions of where I could start my search?
Name and address supplied
Indeed I do. Well, that’s not strictly true, I couldn’t personally recommend any printers in Dubai, but luckily I know a man that can. I’ve spoken to Pratik Sardesai, technical editor on our sister magazine PrintWeek Middle East & Africa, and he says that while you’re spoilt for choice in Dubai, as it has a plethora of top quality operators, he recommends the following: If you’re looking at placing long-run work try Emirates Printing Press (+971-4-3475550) if it’s medium- to short-run talk to International Printing Press (+971-4-266 7131); and for digital work he recommends Spectrum Digital (+971-4-3620566). If you need any more suggestions he’s happy to help - pratik@printweekmea.com.
