The reason I mention it is that, as you may have noticed, the UK seems to be on the precipice of another potentially catastrophic economic crisis, although this time it’s of our own making – as opposed to a little known, at the time, largely US lending model called sub-prime.
I’m talking about Brexit, which is now nearing its critical endgame.
Businesses are getting increasingly nervous that politicians at home and on the continent still seem set on playing a dangerous game of brinkmanship.
But, before we start to panic, it’s a good time to remember: we survived 2008 and the subsequent recession. Yes, the business landscape changed, but the world (and the presses) kept turning.
This week’s interview with Gemini Print group managing director Steve Cropper is a case in point.
Like most print business, Gemini didn’t feel the full effects of the financial crisis until 2010, but from then on in for the next seven years it bounced from one seemingly insurmountable challenge to the next. Cropper is very candid about the challenges he and the business faced, but the important thing to remember is that the business is still going strong and, according to Cropper, is fitter than ever.
So, if you’re starting to get twitchy about what might happen next March, keep a cool head and check out his interview.
Because if Gemini managed to navigate all the challenges it faced, then I’m pretty a little Brexit bump isn’t going to derail an entire industry!
