The production machine, which combines technologies from Xerox's colour 490 and monochrome 650 continuous-feed printers, is designed to enable customers to migrate from mono-only transactional print to the production of colour bills and statements.
Chris Aked, marketing manager for continuous-feed solutions, said the press reinforced the manufacturer's position in a competitive market that includes Kodak, Infoprint, Xeikon and Océ.
He said: "The main market for the four-over-one is without a doubt transactional. With this solution, we have an amalgamation of our two strongest continuous-feed products in both mono and colour to give customers that high level of flexibility."
The four-over-one, which incorporates Xerox flash fusing technology, can output 900 A4 impressions per minute.
Xerox is targeting the latest machine at transpromo printers to capitalise on recent InfoTrends research that revealed 95% of consumers open and read bills.
According to Eric Armour, president of Global Business Group at Xerox, it provides "the right blend of colour, speed and image quality to help transform costly, routine communications into high-impact promotional documents".
The machine is set to launch globally in early 2010, with the first installation to be completed later this year.
