W&P director Phil Shepherd said: “We wanted to expand our services so we can supply customers locally for short-run PUR binding. We were impressed with the quality of the Horizon BQ-280 and it fitted the bill to offer the perfect binding service we were looking for.”
Shepherd said the investment cost a little under £50,000 and was purchased from Intelligent Finishing Systems.
The Horizon was installed at the firm’s South Wales site at the end of last year, and, according to Shepherd it has already had a positive impact on sales.
W&P has already secured new business on the back of the investment, according to Shepherd. “We have had business wins from existing customers and we have also picked up new clients,” he said.
The Horizon BQ-280 PUR features automatic nipper height control, smooth book delivery and on-screen height adjustment control for glue rollers and spinners. It also offers a maximum production speed of 500 books per hour.
Shepherd said: “The BQ-280 is a compact size and we didn’t have to move our other equipment to make room for it.”
W&P’s other services include cutting, collating, shrinkwrapping, spiral binding and mail fulfilment. Its clients are largely based in Wales and the South West.
The company has four employees and an annual turnover of £150,000. “If things get busier and we continue to get new business we might need to take on more staff,” said Shepherd.
