“The only repro services that we still buy in are the occasional picture scans and digital proofs,” she said. The firm is still using FE Burman for some services but has dispensed with London-based ColourScript among others.
Hurst had started bringing repro in-house at Ziff-Davis before it was bought by VNU two years ago.
The move has led to the installation of flight-checking software as well as Canon laser printers with EFI Fiery RIPs at VNU’s central London base.
Hurst praised the contribution of VNU digital production manager Warren Head to the transition. She has also recruited a new digital production controller, Alice Whelan, who has a repro background.
