The order for four Nexus 2516 devices from the Leicester manufacturer represents Vivid’s biggest single order.
The devices were installed last month at Royal Mail’s Super Hub in Warrington and its new Midlands Super Hub in Northampton, with a brace of VeloBlades now in operation at each site.
Vivid praised sales executive Duncan Cross for his outstanding work and dedication in securing the deal, with Cross achieving “an incredible record-breaking sales order for the company”.
The Warrington hub can handle more than 800,000 parcels a day, while the Midlands centre is capable of processing more than one million items and parcels per day.
The VeloBlade Nexus devices will be used to make sleeves for Royal Mail’s York roller cages, which are used across the business. All four are fitted with front-end stack auto-feeders “for full system automation”.
Royal Mail management conducted extensive tests at Vivid’s showroom in Ashby prior to agreeing to the purchase. This included testing materials performance and cut timing calculations to determine that the necessary volumes could be completed within the required time frames.
The VeloBlade Nexus range of digital die-cutters can cut a wide range of materials up to 25mm in thickness with a CNC router.
The 2516 model has a bed size of 2.5x1.6m.
The quantum of the investment was not disclosed.
