Visual Print and Design’s Lincoln site spent February raising money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) with fitness challenges, a gaming marathon and charity shop drives.

The commercial printer smashed its £290 fundraising target, handing over £540 after fielding donations from staff, family and friends for the BHF’s Heart Month.

Each member of the team walked or ran 160,000 steps over the course of February, each step representing one of the 160,000 in Lincolnshire living with heart or circulatory disease.

Employees also took part in a sponsored 24-hour ‘game-athon’, where they stayed up throughout the night playing board and video games, and took part in a drive to collect items for the BHF’s local charity shops.

Scott James, head of operations at Visual Print, said: “We raise money for both local and national charities throughout the year but with February being Heart Month, we felt it was the perfect time to raise vital funds for the British Heart Foundation.

“We are absolutely over the moon that we managed to surpass our target thanks to the generosity of customers, friends, family and suppliers. The team did an incredible job getting involved, even when we had to stay awake for 24 hours.”

Melanie Meik, community engagement and fundraising manager at BHF Lincolnshire & Rutland, said she was delighted by Visual Print’s efforts.

She added: “For more than 60 years, the British Heart Foundation has funded research that has turned ideas that once seemed like 'science fiction' into treatments and cures that save lives every day. But millions of people are still waiting for the next breakthrough.

“It is thanks to the support of companies like Visual Print and Design that we can keep research going and discover the treatments and cures of the future.”

Separately, Visual Print has been working on interesting projects such as bespoke packaging for a gin gift-set, which it designed and produced for local drinks business Lincoln Distillery.

Recommended to the distillery by non-profit members’ group Lincolnshire Food and Drink, the company had to design a box that would both be robust and easily folded in place by the client.

Rachael Hunt, head of marketing and business development, explained: “There was certainly a learning curve with these gift boxes as it was important that they were functional as well as looked the part.

“They were being produced for the Lincoln Christmas Market – which can get very busy – so Lincoln Distillery needed a box that could be quickly made up when time was up against them.”

Matthew Felgate, the Lincoln Distillery’s managing director, said: “We were really pleased with the whole process. The team at Visual Print were very professional from start to finish. They took our brief and returned a premium product which surpassed our expectations.”
