VGI sells majority stake in HighWater to joint owner of Cron

Vanguard Graphics International (VGI) has sold a majority stake in UK pre-press specialist HighWater Designs to Jane Wei, joint owner of the Chinese thermal CTP manufacturer Hangzhou Cron Machinery & Electronics.

Wei has now been appointed chief executive of HighWater Designs and will oversee the company's existing management team, with the exception of former managing director John Makowski, who is understood to be heading up VGI's European operations.

HighWater is now gearing up to bring Cron's products to Europe, Middle East and Africa, through its existing sales and support network.

Andrew Aldridge, marketing manager at HighWater Designs, said: "HighWater will be introducing the Cron Thermal TP33 and TP46 CtP systems and the Cron UVP UV conventional CtP systems through our established and new dealer channels throughout the EMEA region, complimenting HighWater's existing low-cost manual and semi-automatic violet CTP systems."

Aldridge added that the features of Cron's platesetter range, including "superb imaging quality, full automation and daylight operation", were attracting new customers to the company who may previously have been put off by the need for a safe light environment, full plate processor and manual operation of HighWater's violet range.

"Now customers of all sizes can chose the feature/price balance that suits their needs in a new CTP system from a single supplier be that violet, thermal or conventional, all backed by HighWater's customer support team in Cheltenham," he said.
