In the last three years, the university has invested two four-colour Presstek 34DI machines in order to bring in-house all of its departments' brochures.
According to head of inplant Geoff Hughes, the university's existing Polar 66 could not keep up with demands.
He said: "We can be handling runs up to 10,000 at a time, depending on the department, with an average of 8,000 a year for each of the 23 brochures. There was nothing wrong with our old guillotine, but we needed a bigger, faster machine to keep up with our increased demand."
Despite installing the 78X, which went in last Friday, the university intends to keep its 66 as well.
