3D Group is attempting to enter the personalised colour market after the UKs first commercial installation of a Xerox DocuColor 2060 with CreoScitex Spire RIP.

3D Group business development director Andy Powell said: To date, most 2060s have come with the Fiery front-end, which is a good RIP.

But we wanted to aim at the colour one-to-one arena and the CreoScitex RIP is just better for personalisation and colour management.

3D will update its beta-test software in the next week. Powell said that customer demand for colour personalisation had acted as the catalyst for the investment.

Some of our clients want to use colour, including pie charts and graphs, in mailings to the top 10% of their clients. Its definitely a growth area, he added.

The 2060 will join the companys three Xerox 4635 monochrome printers, which are operated by 3Ds 30 staff on a 24-hour shift pattern. Powell said that this was because much of the firms work was overnight document production for the City.

A spokesman for Xerox said: Theyre both good RIPs, but it depends on which sorts of applications the customer wants. The CreoScitex RIP is certainly good for variable data invoices.

A Xerox 2060 with CreoScitex front-end had also been beta tested at an undisclosed London company since September.

3D Group is based in Bow, east London, and has an annual turnover of approximately 3m.
