UK first for Pensord

Pensord Press has taken delivery of its new Heidelberg SM102-8P eight-unit perfector and the machine should be fully operational by 24 August.

The press formed part of chief executive Tony Jones 2m investment in new equipment after he led a management buyout of the south-east Wales printer in June (PrintWeek, 12 June).

Its the first of its kind to be installed in the UK with the new Preset Plus vacuum paper feed technology. At full capacity the SM102-8P will run at 13,000 sheets an hour.

Jones hopes to add to capacity by bringing in a third press at a later stage, although he said the decision would be influenced by digital technology.

The firm is still reviewing options for a new workflow and MIS, and is installing a new Trendsetter platesetter to run alongside its Heidelberg 3244 Trendsetter.

Although satisfied with his current team and four-man board, which includes new commercial director Darren Coxon, Jones wants to add one more salesperson.

Pensord, which produces more than 150 magazine titles and employs 120 staff, is also set to launch a magazine for its customers, entitled The Edge.
