UK behind Europe in web-to-print stakes

UK printers are lagging behind the rest of Europe in the adoption of web-to-print software, according to a report from InfoTrends.

It found some 60% of UK companies had no plans to run web-to-print systems, with only 20% saying that they did. This placed the UK among the bottom third of countries planning to adopt web-to-print.

In Europe as a whole, half of the companies surveyed said they did not plan to provide a web-to-print service.
The study of 13 European countries was commissioned by Canon Europe. It wanted an overview of the web-to-print market.

InfoTrends associate director Ralf Schlözer said: “Web-to-print is seen very narrowly at the moment. In fact, it
is more than just a job submission tool.”

Canon Europe solutions manager for professional print Mark Lawn added: “When we investigated the market, we found there was a common misunderstanding of what web-to-print is. This research now gives us a platform.”
