Trainee of the Year: Jayleigh Price, Precision Colour Printing

When Price attended an apprentice open day at Precision Colour Printing just over three years ago she was the only female out of a 30 strong group of applicants.

Early on in her apprenticeship she set her sights high and stated that she would one day like to “run one of those big machines” in the company’s print department. According to the company she quickly learned a wide range of skills across different pieces of equipment and within 18 months of joining PCP she was running a six-unit Mitsubishi press. She is now a qualified printer and has graduated onto a 10-unit Heidelberg Speedmaster 102. PCP says that Price is a “valuable asset” to the print department and it’s only a matter of time before she fulfils her ambition and becomes number one operator on a 32pp heatset web.

Highly commended

Callum Cusack, Reach Printing Services

Cusack joined Reach in 2014 aged 19 as an ‘engineering assistant’ as RPS Watford did not offer apprenticeships at the time. The company advised him he should look to gain further training to help his career prospects so he took a self-funded electrical Level 2 course. RPS went on to employ him as a shift electrical technician and earlier this year he completed and passed his HNC.

Paisley Woods, Northern Flags

In 2017, Woods joined Northern Flags as a seamstress apprentice. She has since flourished into one of the “most exceptional print operators and seamstresses” the company has employed to date. She doubled her sewing speed in the first five months of her employment and Woods is now capable of running a wide range of print and cutting machinery.
