TJ opts to reduce alcohol use

TJ International has reduced alcohol use on its presses from 10.5% to 3% after a year-long project. Our focus was on environmental issues and drying times at first, said TJ Internationals manufacturing manager David Laskey.

"But recent increases in prices, and the simultaneous reduction in availability, of isopropyl alcohol have made our actions even more beneficial to the business."

The Padstow, Cornwall-based firm, PrintWeek's Printing Company of the Year worked with MAN Roland's consumables team, which provided Westland rollers and Fuji-Hunt chemistry.

Dampening rollers were changed to new Wero-Aqua from Westland running with low-alcohol fount solutions. "We have had no adverse reaction from the inks," said Laskey.
