The Edinburgh-based company has recently moved its operations to a larger 1,115sqm factory and this will enable it to take on the large-format cut-and-crease equipment from Heidelberg, which will be installed next month.
Michael Thomson, production director at Thomson Print & Packaging, said: “We evaluated a few suppliers, but the Heidelberg Easymatrix 106 CS provides us with the best solution for our requirements.
“We have outsourced this type of work previously, resulting in a substantial productivity gain by moving this operation in-house.”
Barry Thomson, sales director at Thomson Print & Packaging, added: “We supply a wide range of print and packaging products, mainly catering to the beverages industry in the UK and Ireland.
“This new facility supports our growth plans in regard to developing our carton business and will continue during 2024 with the installation of a new folder gluer, capable of finishing difficult carton styles in a single pass.”
The Easymatrix offers increased productivity compared to the use of conventional hand platen and cylinder machines, with a machine speed up to 7,700sph and a maximum sheet format of 750×1,060mm.
A family-owned business established in 1998, Thomson Print & Packaging produces a range of printed labels, brochures, books, folding cartons, swing tags, marketing materials, and corporate stationery.
The site move has shifted the business closer to its main customers, enabling it to reduce its carbon footprint in fulfilment. With an increase in productivity and a significant reduction in waste, the Easymatrix is also expected to contribute towards operational sustainability.
