Launching on 16 July, the new 28pp magazine will have a circulation of 2.4 million and will be distributed nationwide with the Sun on Saturday.
Prinovis in Liverpool will print the new title on 52gsm improved newsprint on its KBA gravure presses. The copies will then be transferred to Newsprinters Knowsley where they will be polybagged with the Sun TV magazine ready for distribution across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Popcorn, which has been produced by the Fabulous Magazine production team, is described by editor Jamie East as the “go-to monthly for all of the family, on all things Hollywood”, designed to inform about film viewing both at home and at the cinema.
The title will also have an online presence on the Sun’s website. It is sponsored by Sky Cinema - the newly rebranded Sky Movies.
East, who is also film editor for The Sun, said: “Research found that around 75% of our readers regularly watch movies both at the cinema and at home, love reading about them in the paper and many suggested that paid-for film content really enhanced their experience and was actively welcomed.
"This is where the idea for Popcorn was born. We wanted to create a brand new free film franchise for all Sun readers that could also sit online as a dedicated film channel.”
