The Economist produces sampler promo in bid to win subs

The Economist has produced a sampler edition to tempt new subscribers to the weekly magazine.

Handed out on the London Underground, the special edition contains a selection of previously published articles as well as a promotion for a free copy of this week's full edition.

Printed at St Ives Direct, Edenbridge, the 267x203mm sampler consisted of a four-page front cover, four-page subscription card and 16 pages of copy.

This latter element required a 600,000 print run, while the covers and subs cards were produced in quantities of 370,000 for the initial distribution. However, a subsequent promotion is planned for September.

St Ives said it was "prepared to react quickly to an increased print run for this issue" should the free copy offer prove popular.
