The nine-year-old Perthshire-based company run by husband and wife Gary and Elizabeth Paterson installed the £19,000 printer-cutter two months ago.
Their four-staff company, which is looking to turn over £240,000 next year, also runs a Xerox Color 560 SRA3 machine and a Canon imagePrograf iPF8100.
Creative director Gary Paterson said: “It's an awesome machine and was up and running within five days of delivery.
“The Canon is very old and still churns away – there's nothing wrong with it – but we wanted to keep up with technology and needed a machine with print-and-cut functionality and wanted to move into wallpaper and t-shirts.”
He added: “We looked at the Roland VersaCamm, which was more expensive. And the quality of the VG is ridiculously sharp at that price point – it should be more expensive for that quality.”
Since installation the company has used the new printer for pop-up displays and banners, and hopes to reduce its £20,000 monthly outsourcing bill by around £5,000 a month.
“I'm hoping the new purchase will enable us to take on more staff; I'm not too worried about boosting turnover, or even profit, right now.
“But I want to make sure we have the right people on board and are doing things correctly. We’ve worked with several signage and large-format printers over the years but saw varied quality.
“It became clear that to further develop the business, a new printer would be needed to allow us to do more in-house, control quality, offer a faster turnaround and increase profits.”
A day’s visit to Sign & Digital UK 2016 introduced Paterson to Roland’s newly launched TrueVis range, which incorporates new inks in 500cc pouches, new printhead technology and a new cutting carriage.
According to Roland the TrueVis delivers a wider colour gamut, richer solids and better gradations while meeting strict environmental standards.
Other benefits include LED lighting and a new Bluetooth-enabled Roland mobile panel allowing for remote operation. VersaWorks Dual RIP software supports PostScript and PDF files.
Following its Sign & Digital introduction to the VG, T’Go Creative consulted with Roland reseller, Printmax.
“The Roland allows us to take on many jobs we simply couldn’t have said 'yes' to previously, and of course allows us to control the quality,” said Paterson.
“As designers we are quite picky. Though a client may not notice a slight colour difference, we do, so for us to be able to send out a perfect product means it’s been a worthwhile investment.
“We’re putting the VG-640 to good use by launching in-house production of bespoke wallpaper. Our partner decorating firm cannot believe the quality and scratch resistance of the print.”
