Barringtons of York was on the verge of closing earlier this month, after York City Council agreed to fund the acquisition of its plant by the York Museum Trust.
However, after PrintWeek published a comment by Technoprint managing director Mark Snee slamming the move, which would result in at least 15 redundancies, councillors backtracked on the decision.
At a meeting on Monday, councillors confirmed that they would not approve a loan to the Trust if jobs were at risk.
Snee said: "We have now matched the offer made by the Trust and the landlord has said that if a deal isn't done with it, we will get the chance to purchase it."
The Council and Trust were unavailable for comment as PrintWeek went to press.
