Gecko is a solvent-based ink suitable for lamination and film, and has been sold in Europe by parent company Huber Group since its Drupa launch.
"This is a long-term investment for us," said Stehlin Hostag UK joint managing director David Ward. "It won't be the cheapest ink but we don't intend to just sell on price. We will promote our technical ability, quality and service as well."
The firm plans to open its flexo service centre at one of two sites between Leeds and its headquarters in Nottingham. Ward said he expected the centre to employ 13 new staff including up to four technical sales people.
"We are still very committed to commercial offset, but with having this product it makes sense to exploit its potential," he said.
"UV flexo is something that we will look at in the future. Our UV plant in Switzerland has had remarkable success in offset packaging," he added.
