The Hull-based label and packaging business has installed the new machine, its fourth Indigo since 2005, to transfer an increasing amount of existing business to digital print.
Albert Dass, chairman of Springfield Solutions, said the investment wasn't necessarily about attracting new business to the 74-staff company, but more to improve the efficiency and quality of work it was already producing.
He said: "In today’s market, a business like ours must continually diversify and react to customer requirements.
"The current economic downturn has ensured that our retail manufacturing clients are constantly seeking ways to control costs and react quicker to market trends to increase sales potential. With the HP Indigo WS6000, we can help deliver that."
The new machine builds on the company's existing brace of WS4500 model presses and can print at speeds of up to 30m per minute in four-colour mode.
Springfield's latest Indigo is expected to allow the company to complete medium-run jobs within shorter timeframes.
According to HP, the WS6000 is designed to be more cost-effective on jobs up to 4,000 linear metres – work that is normally carried out on flexographic machines.
Dass said: "HP understands the label converting business. This is reflected in the design of the HP Indigo WS6000 digital press, with its touchscreen user interface."
The Kingston-upon-Hull printer serves a wide range of clients, including those in the food, beverage, household and paints industries.
"We have total confidence that the high print quality achieved by our new HP Indigo press will enable us to continue to diversify our services to win new customers and help us to sustain growth within new markets," he added.
