An internal document has been leaked to the National Union of Journalists, claiming that eight titles are set to close, according to a story in The Guardian.
In addition, it was reported that the flagship Birmingham Post will be moving from a daily to a weekly or bi-weekly and evening title, with the Birmingham Mail, becoming a morning publication.
It is believed that the cuts would reduce expenditure at Fort Dunlop, the opening of which led to 92 job losses between 2002 and 2004, by around £2.5m.
According to the alleged leak, confirmation of the titles' futures will be made public in "the next few days".
However, Unite national officer Steve Sibbald said he had only heard that there were plans to take titles from daily to weekly adding that he believed capacity at the plant would still be in demand.
He told PrintWeek: "At this stage we have not heard anything about a reduction in printing or job losses. It is possible that they will move titles in from elsewhere.
"Liverpool is set to close and the titles there are going to Oldham, which still has its own titles. There are also other print sites in the UK that haven't upgraded their presses which may close.
"It is a modern printing facility and I wouldn't have thought they would want to make cut backs there."
Trinity Mirror did not wish to comment directly on the speculation, but said: "We are constantly reviewing our business, particularly in the current challenging economic environment. As always, if we do have any plans to announce, our staff would be the first to know."
