The Potters Bar-based company, a trade supplier to various print companies that manufacture retail display units, installed the Acuity LED three months ago.
“We haven’t stopped since we’ve had it and it’s been a fantastic machine. We’re now doing all these short production runs, which is something we couldn’t do before,” said SP managing director Simon Todd.
The firm, which was founded in 2009 and has four employees and a turnover of £250,000, invested in the Acuity LED to save time and increase capacity.
Todd said: “It’s improved our efficiency because we can print everything direct to board and straight to media and then we just cut it out. It’s saved us quite a bit of time in regards to not having to mount everything.”
SP Design looked at a range of similar machines before making the investment but didn’t find anything that compared to the Acuity LED. The £60,000 printer, which was supplied by Mayday Graphics, is the firm’s first Fujifilm purchase.
SP was keen to invest in the technology as it guarantees low energy consumption and has the capability to handle a wide range of roll and rigid materials including heat-sensitive film and non-PVC media.
The machine’s ability to apply spot UV varnish was also pivotal to the firm’s decision. “It’s really good and it’s a big key thing for us. We do a lot of work with Warner Bros and highlighting specific areas of print is good for them, they like that sort of thing,” said Todd.
