The National Trust card almost “took the biscuit” in terms of fineness and registration required. Elsewhere, the Watford company had to balance publisher requests to blend fun design with the downright quirky. The hearts, for example, on the Birthday Crown were never intended to exactly line up but were the result of an inspired but off-the-wall, last-minute tweak. The job, which came off a Heidelberg litho press with foiling from Saroglia kit, did more than win over children, it also engaged and delighted the judges.

The Nottingham printer, which has all but made this fun-loving category its own, almost repeated its 2013 victory with projects including Pop ’n’ Rock Swing cards. These carefully created miniature works of art are now sold in over 45 countries. However, its well-earned highly commended award is no less testimony to the sheer creative force and enormous shelf presence of the Marzipan Toybox & Sunny Side Up or the Pizazz Wedding and New Baby ranges.
