Buying the SC-80600 from reseller Perfect Colours, Shore Wraps put the machine in place in May 2023.
The new 95.1 sqm/hr printer can run Epson’s GS3 nine-colour solvent inkset, which includes red and options for white and metallic silver.
The machine’s ability to print a wide spectrum of colours accurately was an important factor in Shore Wraps’ decision to buy, according to managing director Chris Williams.
He told Printweek: “The colour gamut that we achieve with it is just phenomenal compared to what we had before.”
Able to hit 98% of Pantone’s Solid Coated 1 colour chart, with in-built Pantone matching system, the machine’s consistency has also saved a lot of time in colour-matching on jobs that the firm’s older HP Latex 300 had struggled with.
“We were spending a lot of time doing colour matching to try and hit the customers’ colours. The colours and vibrancies of the greens, and reds just wasn’t quite there for us, and the Epson has managed to do it.”
He added that the price point had been attractive too: the Epson’s list price comes in at under £18,000; Shore Wraps managed to buy its machine for more than £6,000 less than the competitor machine it had been considering.
The Epson now sits alongside the Latex 300, with the latter still in full production on bread and butter work, and the Epson taking on the challenging projects.
Williams said the Latex was more than capable of running most jobs, but “for something a bit more special, or outside the box, then we’ll run it through the Epson”.
The purchase came just as Shore Wraps was switching to a larger unit.
“It was a perfect time for us to upgrade,” said Williams:
“We have a lot more space.”
Shore Wraps employs 8 at its Glasgow production site.
